Committed to Tackling Domestic Violence

Today is National White Ribbon Day and I am proud to announce that I have teamed up with White Ribbon to ensure that awareness and tackling of domestic violence would be front and centre in Lincolnshire Police if I become Commissioner on 5th May 2016.

Currently we see a staggering 900 reports a month of domestic violence here in Lincolnshire and the best estimate is that this represents around 15% of all actual attacks.

No one should suffer this kind of abuse and as we all know most domestic abuse is perpetrated by men against women. We all need to accept that this kind of abuse is a man's issue and not the woman's. Obviously all abuse is totally unacceptable and for too long there has been a stigma around men reporting women for attacks and that perception must be challenged too.

White Ribbon work to challenge the old ways of thinking and embed real cultural change regarding domestic violence and I am immensely pleased that they want to work with me to tackle this issue. Chris Green the CEO of White Ribbon said

"We heartily support candidates who promote the prevention of male violence against women'...and we wish you the best of luck."

I will be working hard to raise this issue over the coming months and look forward to making the tackling of domestic violence a key part of my plan.
